2020 Domaine Gangloff "La Sereine Noire" Cote Rotie (Rhone Valley, FR) 6R

    98 Points, Vinous

"Displays expansive, highly perfumed aromas of black raspberry and boysenberry, with exotic spice, violet oil, smoky mineral and incense notes building in the glass. Densely packed yet almost shockingly energetic on the palate, offering penetrating black and blue fruit liqueur, floral pastille, allspice and olive paste flavors with a hint of cracked pepper. The floral note carries emphatically through a wonderfully long, sharply detailed finish that's framed by youthfully gripping, polished tannins."

    About The Varietal

    Syrah

Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.
