About The Varietal
Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.

Few Northern Rhone wine world names are as respected as Alain Graillot. In 1985, the late legendary Alain Graillot returned to his roots in Crozes-Hermitage after collaborating with Jacques Seysses at Domaine Dujac to establish his winery. Alain's commitment was present in every bottle he touched, creating captivatingly delicious Syrah in his organically cultivated, stony vineyards. Since 2008, Alain's sons Maxim and Antoine have taken the reins, carrying on the legacy established by their father. We believe many things at The Urban Grape; one is that everything the Graillot family touches is gold!
