2015 La Rioja Alta "Vina Arana" Gran Reserva (Rioja, SP) 5R

    96 Points, Decanter

"Arana commemorates one of La Rioja Alta's historic families. The Tempranillo and Graciano are aged separately in American oak barrels for three years before blending, then for three years in bottle (two. years less than the 904, and six years less than the 890). The winery's keynote to this Rioja is 'freshness.' I agree."

    About The Varietal

    Rioja Red Blend

Rioja Red Blend is a term used to describe the combination of red-wine varieties grown in the Rioja DOCa in Northern Spain. With a base of Tempranillo, the additional varietals can be Grenache, Carignan or Graciano. Outside of Spain, these blends are occasionally found in California and South Australia.

    About The Producer

    La Rioja Alta

La Rioja Alta stands out as a leading winery in the Rioja area, established in 1890 by a group of five families from Rioja and the Basque Country. It has gained acclaim for its traditional, spicy Gran Reserva red wines, which are renowned for their ability to mature elegantly over numerous years. The winery is named after the Rioja Alta (Upper Rioja) subregion, where much of its activity is centered.
