2011 Marques de Murrieta "Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial" (Rioja, SP) 5R

The grapes for this bottle are sourced from the La Plana vineyard plot, the highest within the Ygay estate at 1,500 feet. This elevation lifts this wine, presenting a light and elegant bouquet of ripe red fruit, spices, and cedar. The palate is textured and complex, with fruit, spice, and leather taking center stage. This flavor combination lends especially well to stewed meats or aged cheeses.

The family behind Marques de Murrieta is one of the oldest in Rioja, founded in 1852. With so many years under their belt, there is no wonder this Rioja is picture-perfect.

    About The Varietal

    Carignan

Carignan is a grape variety with dark skin, believed to have originated in Aragon. This grape is prevalent in wines produced along the Mediterranean coast, particularly in northeastern Spain and the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It is frequently used for blending with other significant regional grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre.
