2010 Filliatreau Saumur-Champigny Rouge (Loire Valley, FR) 4R

Domaine Filliatreau, a 50-hectare estate near Saumur, is run by Paul and Frédrik Filliatreau. The La Grande Vignolle vineyard in Saumur-Champigny sits on a tufa-stone outcrop along the Loire. This calcareous soil gives the Cabernet Franc grapes juicy flavors and good acidity.

The wine is made from old vines, vinified in stainless steel, and bottled unfiltered. It boasts rich red fruit flavors with hints of tobacco and licorice, and has excellent aging potential. Paul Filliatreau, a pioneer of Saumur-Champigny, has embraced biodynamic methods to return to traditional vine-growing practices.

    About The Varietal

    Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is a dark-skinned grape variety of French origin cultivated in numerous wine-producing regions across the globe. It is best recognized for its significant role as a red grape variety in the Loire Valley and as the third most important grape in Bordeaux. Cabernet Franc is also a common component in many of the world's finest Bordeaux blend wines.
