This small 15-acre domaine is divided into 25 separate plots, each farmed and vinified individually. In the northern Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir can struggle to ripen, Pierre Fresne expertly handles the 40% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier, and 35% Chardonnay, ensuring optimal maturity. The wine consists of roughly 70% 2016 vintage, with 30% reserve wines, and spent six years on its lees before disgorgement earlier this year. It delights the senses with a captivating blend of small red berries, lemon, apricot, subtle toast, and apple skin notes on both the nose and palate, leading to a seamless, dry finish that far exceeds its price point.
