2020 Escalada do Sil Tinto (Valdeorras, SP) 3R

An elegant and strongly aromatic red wine, Escalada do Sil, is a history project by Alberto Orte. It hails from a region predominantly recognized for its white wine production. Crafted from a blend of Merenzao (also referred to as Bastardo, or Trousseau in France), Mencia, and Alicante Bouschet, this combination transports us to a bygone era when red wines held sway in this area. The grapes are sourced from steep mountainside vineyards with terraced slopes, necessitating meticulous hand harvesting.

The lift and elegance of Escalada do Sil and its bright red fruit beg for earthy, savory flavors. Mushrooms, roasted game and poultry are brilliant pairings for Escalada do Sil.

    About The Varietal

    Alicante Bouschet

This grape variety is the result of a cross between Petit Bouschet and Grenache, and it was initially cultivated by the viticulturist Henri Bouschet in 1866. Thanks to its productive and adaptable vines, Alicante Bouschet played a crucial role in the recovery of European wine industries that had been severely affected by the phylloxera epidemic.
