This week’s spotlight is an elegant expression of terroir coming from the Southern Rhone Valley in France. The 2015 Domaine la Bouissiere Gigondas is full of dark fruit and earthy spice – blackberries, plums, and black cherries mix with dried herbs and black pepper in the glass. A silky, luxurious texture coats your mouth and the acidity sneaks in at the very last second, to keep you coming back for another sip.
Coming from vineyards at some of the highest altitude sites in Gigondas, the cooler climate and rocky soils impart a better structure to the wine. The grapes can ripen fully, but with a slightly lower alcohol than usual and remarkable acidic balance. 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah make up this wine, all from vines an average of 50 years old. Harvested by hand with painstaking care, the grapes are then fermented using natural yeasts and aged in a combination of cement and large used oak barrels.
A truly remarkable and elegant expression of Gigondas wines, this bottle has great ageing potential as well. Whether you are fan of Rhone wines or looking to explore the region for the first time, this bottle offers an exceptional quality for an outstanding price. Even better, we will be pouring it at our Free Tasting this Saturday the 27th, from 3pm-6pm! Grab a bottle or two to enjoy this week, and then stash some away to enjoy in years to come.
