There is a lot of really cool wine coming out of South Africa right now. Once known for their dedication to the polarizing Pinotage grape, the country’s winemakers are diversifying their offerings and experiencing with varietal, terroir, and production techniques. The resulting wines are intriguing, palate-friendly, and most importantly, wallet-friendly as well.
The owner and winemaker of B Vintners came into UG last week and we were immediately taken with their distinct wines, grown in a cool climate at a high altitude, but close enough to the ocean to reap the benefits of the maritime influence on the grapes. TJ bought everything that they offered us, that’s how much he believes in their wine and winemaking philosophy.
The “Black Bream” Pinot Noir scored 93 points from Wine Spectator, which hailed it as “gorgeous, with light cinnamon, black tea and powdered star anise notes…[with a] silky core of crushed cherry and raspberry fruit.” Only 250 cases of this incredible Pinot Noir were imported, and we’ve got a chunk of them for you at UG, ready to be delivered to your home!
