The Ultraviolet Cabernet is a wine that sheds new light on what Napa Cabernets can bring to the table! This bottle brings together Old World, Bordeaux influences to a distinctly New World Cab, all at an unbelievable price point. Pair that with a skilled winemaker and premium grapes, and what can go wrong? Full of blackberry glaze and blueberry cobbler aromas, underscored by dried tobacco, leather, and a distinct earthiness, this wine has it all. The bright acidity and soft tannins are delicately balanced, putting the finishing touches on this masterpiece. Based on this vintage, it is easy to see why Ultraviolet Cabernets have developed a cult following!
Started in 2009 by Samantha Sheehan of POE Wines, Ultraviolet is the result of a happy accident. One of Sheehan’s friends had a vineyard client back out at the last minute, leaving him with a harvest of grapes and no buyer. Lucky for us, the fruit ended up in Samantha’s hands, who certainly knows how to make good wine. Having always been inspired by the wines of France, her Ultraviolet Cab is no exception. A distinct Bordeaux influence can be seen in the texture and earthiness of Ultraviolet, but the abundance of fruit character set it in a category all its own. Aged for 18 months in 50% new and 50% neutral oak, Ultraviolet is a nicely balanced, well rounded Cabernet.
This is a great opportunity to get a taste of Sheehan’s expert winemaking at an outstanding price! Ultraviolet is a treat for Bordeaux and Napa lovers alike, and does an incredible job of building a bridge between the two styles. Certainly in a class all it’s own, give Ultraviolet a shot while it is still available!
