SPOTLIGHT WINE: 2012 Barth “Charta” Riesling (Rheingau, Germany)

SPOTLIGHT WINE: 2012 Barth “Charta” Riesling (Rheingau, Germany)

Brand new to UG, and found only in the Rheingau, this dry German Riesling has a unique flavor profile and structure that separates it from any other Riesling in the world.

Since 1983 the Charta Association has produced wines according to strict quality standards, and the Barth Riesling is no exception. Expressive fruit character, racy acidity, and elegant balance reflect the high caliber expected of Charta wines.

TJ was struck by the impeccable balance and acidity on the palate, and noted the beautiful fresh apricot and peach skin notes. The nose is very aromatic and bounds out of the glass with a bouquet of minerality, orange blossom, and honey, with some peach and candied citrus fruit to round it out. The finish lingers with faint echoes of pineapple and honeysuckle.

With lush flavors, medium body, taut acidity, and a long finish, this Riesling stands out as an excellent dinner companion. Stock up now while it is still available!
