White Wine

We have nothing against oaky, buttery Chardonnays. But the world of white wine is so vast, so delicate and nuanced, that we just hate for all whites to be judged by this one standard. We feature many gorgeous white wines that are just right for sharing with friends over hors d’oeuvres, pairing with an excellent fish dish or popping open on a glorious spring afternoon. We also feature white wines that can be laid down and aged along with your red wine collection – really!

Here are some of our favorite white wines at the store right now:

  • 2009 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc (Napa)   3W
Ray Duncan and his sons founded Twomey Cellars in 1999 with a goal to create food-friendly wines drinkable upon release. Their 12-acre vineyard in Calistoga produces Sauvignon Blanc aged sur lies for four months in French oak barrels, stainless steel drums and puncheons. The wine expresses the soil and sunny climate with pronounced minerality and freshness that are desirable to any aficionado of the varietal.
  • 2010 Sada Vermentino (Tuscany)   3W
Davide Sada’s estate located in Casale Marittimo, Tuscany takes the concept of terroir very seriously, with quality as the ultimate objective. Agricola Sada’s Vermentino is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks and exhibits a straw-yellow color with green hues. A floral bouquet with tropical aromas, it is accompanied by good minerality and freshness.
  • 2009 Betts & Scholl CC: Chardonnay (Monterrey)   6W
Richard Betts, master sommelier and Dennis Scholl, wine collector and enthusiast started the CC: wine label to offer quality pours below $20 purchased from high-end California vineyards. The 2009 Chardonnay is sourced from the crisp and cool Monterey area and produces a clean unoaked Chardonnay striking a balance between the classic buttery style the state is known for and the sometimes sterile-tasting stainless steel.

Jeff Cohn’s First Date combines native Rhone whites Rousanne (75%) and Marsanne (25%) to create a memorable experience, which delivers of mouthful of beautiful stone fruits, almonds, orange and liquid mineral notes.
