My entire knowledge of tiki stems from two childhood experiences – one my own and one our kids’. The first is the iconic Brady Bunch episode with the evil tiki necklace. An entire generation was scared into believing that picking up ancient artifacts would call giant tarantulas to your bedside.

The Portteus “Bistro Red” is a wine intended for everyday enjoyment. Much of Paul Portteus’ wine philosophy revolves around affordable wine made to drink often. Cherry, raspberry, currant and licorice notes pair well with rainy April evenings and steak frites.
We’ve got a great weekend of events lined up for the weekend, starting tonight with a visit from Round Pond Estates. Makers of exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Round Pond also makes gourmet olive oil. Everyone who purchases a bottle of Round Pond tonight will also receive a bottle of their olive oil for free. Pretty awesome, right?! The tasting is from 5-8.
Tomorrow night we’re delving into the confusing world of sake. The number one thing we hear at UG is that our customers are consistently intimidated by sake. So on Friday night from 5-8 we’re opening some bottles and helping you learn the different designations of sake, as well as what food to pair it with. The best way to learn about sake is to try sake, so make sure you stop by on Friday!
Saturday is an exciting day at UG, when we present our Brown Spirits Grand Tasting from 3-6. We’ll have 10+ bottles of spirits open to try, including all sorts of whisk(e)ys. They’ll be rum and aged tequila as well! This is a great chance to learn more about brown spirits and see why all of us at UG are so in love with them!

2013 Protocolo Blanco Arien, Macabeo (La Mancha) 2W
Protocolo’s vineyards are located on the northeast edge of the D.O. La Mancha, one of the world’s largest wine regions! Protocolo Blanco contains aromas of fresh fruit, while the palate shows silky texture with bright acidity. Delish with shellfish!
2014 Cortijo Rioja Tinto 100% Tempranillo (Rioja, Spain) 4R
Cortijo Rioja Tinto comes from organically grown Tempranillo, aged in 50% old French oak and 50% stainless steel tanks. This Spanish red offers berry fruits, pepper and smoke with soft tannins, and a long finish. The freshness of this wine makes it pair perfectly with a Spanish sampler of cured meats, and roasted veggies.
2014 Los Dos 85% Garnacha, 15% Syrah (Aragon, Spain) 5R
Los Dos, (Spanish for “both”) reflects the blend of two complementary grape varieties, Garnacha and Syrah from the Campo de Borja DO in the northeastern region of Aragón. The soft berry flavor of Grenache meets the depth and complexity of Syrah. Pairs perfectly with casual fare, such as pizza, hamburgers, and ribs.
