Lobster Reef is meant to evoke the rugged coastline their vineyards call home in New Zealand, but it has us thinking about eating lobster rolls on the beach in the heat of the summer! This crisp Sauvignon Blanc would make a great companion to any summer meal or on it’s own to help you feel reinvigorated in the cold winter. Tropical fruit and peach flavors accompany an invigorating acidity, making this wine lively and fun to the last drop!
017 Raats Family Chenin Blanc Original (Stellenbosch, SA) *5W*
Founded in 2001, the Raats Family winery has gained attention around the world for their classic South African wines. Vibrant and balanced, their sustainably produced Chenin Blanc is certainly something to boast about. With a nose of yellow apple and pineapple and the addition of a mineral finish on the palate, it is delightfully nuanced while still feeling fresh. Pair with vegetable dishes or salad.
2017 Bodega del Fin del Mundo “Postales” Cabernet/Malbec (Patagonia, Argentina) *5R*
Once a harsh and unforgiving land, Patagonia has transformed into a wellspring of life. In this oasis on the southern tip of South America, Bodega del Fin del Mundo (literally “The Winery at the End of the World”) makes exciting and vibrant wines. This Cabernet/Malbec blend offers notes of ripe plum and violet, with soft tannins and a long finish. Pair it with herbed chicken dishes or soft cheese.
2015 Mayu Red Blend (Elqui Valley, CL) *6R*
With a name taken from the Incan word for the Milky Way, it is not surprising that the grapes used in Mayu’s wines come from high elevation plantings in Chile. Though they nearly touch the stars, this wine is surprisingly down-to-earth. Incredibly juicy, it packs in flavors of ripe blackberry and plum, along with earthy spice and vanilla. Try it with a Mediterranean fare or anything off the grill!
